| Blessed (salvation belongs to) the Meek Who are the meek? for they will inherit the earth. The meek are not weak soppy people, but rather people like Jesus who being God humbled himself taking on the form of a man. So the meek who although they are something in stature do not act in the proud arrogance that usually marks proud peoples behaviour What does that mean? It is inheriting a place where they do not at the present belong. They are looking for the promises made by God of the restoration of Israel which has been expanded by the prophets to mean not just believing Israel but the believing gentiles that they will inherit the New heavens and earth, wherein righteousness dwells. Part of the working out of the inheritance of all the world is very much linked to the story of Israel when God judged the 7 wicked nations. God disposses the 7 wicked nations and gave it as an inheritance to his son Israel. When they dispossed them of their territory Israel inherited their wealth as in silver gold and other precious items. They also inherited their vineyards and their cities. This a shadow of how God will disposess the nations by warring against them and giving it to the righteous. This must be understood in terms of the promises that the wealth of the Nations will come to the people of God in Jesus. Isaiah 54:3, Isaiah 60:5-10, Isaiah62: 1-7 say the nations will see your vindication. We are exhorted to not give God rest till he establishes Jerusalem. Jerusalem is not this Jerusalem but the golden city the new Jerusalem. The new Jerusalem is the capital city of the Kingdom of God. So we are to give him no rest until he establishes the Kingdom on earth. According to 2 Peter 3 the nations are dispossessed of the earth by God's last act of war against the wicked. That last act is the fire which consumes the enemies of God. It is then given to the people of God. These promises are to us who are the Israel of God. Make them yours. Psalm2: 8 I will make the nations your heritage and the ends of the earth your possession. We will possess because it is given to the Christ, Jesus who is God's king. Romans8: 32 he who did not spare his own son but gave him up for us all. Will He also not give us all things with Him? Again salvation is described in terms of the people and king of God been exalted in God's appointed day. Therefore let all rulers and authorities be put on notice that their time is short and the day of their humiliation is near. For God will become King over the nations and all who rule falsely will be deposed. (1 Cor: 15:24; Zechariah 14:9) The Lord will become King over all the earth ... And there will be no more curse. The people who aren't subject to the king receive shame and humiliation. Hold on to these promises and keep them in your hand hasn'yt anybody told you this is your land. |
