Jesus accepts His betrayal by Judas, because he knows and indeed knew Judas was going to betray him. Jesus didn't see this event as chance or a big mistake but understood this was the working out of God's plan for God's Christ and the salvation of the nations. This is why Jesus could accept this treachery,He knew he was in the hands of God. That being so,does not mean Jesus was unaffected by Judas's betrayal. After all Judas was from among Jesus most trusted friends. It shows what is in the heart of man except by the grace of God. Peter after all also fell from grace when he denied Jesus three times. But Peter found grace in the purposes of God to be restored to God and to encourage others in the time of their fiery trial. I am sure Jesus as a man felt just like David when he was betrayed. David says in Ps alm 41:9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.if it was an enemy he could accept it,but it is one who was close as a brother which makes the unfaithfulness so bitter. But because Jesus understood God had not abandoned him and knew it was going to happen allowed himself to be led into the injustices and destruction that awaited him. For indeed Jesus could have called angels to strike his tormentors with death,it was within his power, but Jesus knowing the purpose of God was obedient even unto death. It was more like that Jesus gave himself up than that he was taken captive. As Peter preaches in Acts 2:23 that Jesus was handed over to the Jews by Gods set purpose and foreknowledge and you with the help of wicked men put him to death nailing him to the cross.
But before Jesus is broughtbefore the gentile rulers he is brought before the chief Priest who asks him if He is the Son of God,the Messiah and Jesus answers them that yes indeed He is. It is then with this charge that he is the King of the Jews that He is brought before Pilate and Herod. Jesus refuses to answer any of their questions and tells them when they assume that since that since they are the ones in authority that they have power to save Jesus life.Jesus instead answers that His life is in the hands and authority of God and they can only do what God permits. They are truly perplexed that Jesus does not beg for his life.He does not plead with cries and groans and full of fear.In the events in the transitional Iraq we have witnessed many captives pleading desperately for their lives and so losing all dignity and honour. There have been exceptions notably that of Americans who have not cried and pleaded. Jesus faces what He is facing because he know what He is accomplishing and that he is in the centre of Gods will. How often we see our own sufferings as been outside of God's will. Not so!!!! Lastly one other thing must be pointed out is that this same group of people came to Jesus and said that if he declares himself to be king that the Romans would take their place away, but what ended up happening instead is that because they refused to make Jesus King of Israel their land was taken away from them and were exiled.
