The Burnt Offering sacrifice without blemish: Leviticus 1:1 Tells us that God spoke to Moses to tell the Israelites how they were to approach YHWH when they sinned, this tells us that this word is Gods own word which YHWH communicated by revelation to Moses. The Israelites never sat down and thought out a system of religion for themselves. They never like the pagan nations around them had a man made religion. It is impossible for man to know God unless God almighty reveals Himself to man. This is why the scriptures in the Old and New testament are the revelation of God. They contain the very words of God as revealed to mortal man. If God never revealed His will for man and how he can be known man would never know God.
Yhwh is the name God uses to describe Himself as the covenant God,YHWH spoke to Moses and told him what to say to His covenant people the Israelites concerning making right with Him when they sinned against God. It was not long before this that God revealed Himself at mount Sinai. it was a terrible occasion where threats of wrath were made to those who broke covenant with Him. The 10 commandments and the law were given, the Israelites could no longer be in doubt between what was right and what was wrong, wrong was called sin and a crime against the Supreme ruler of all the world. Right was called a righteous act and pleased God as opposed to sin which angered God. In days past it was the practice of the Christian church to preach the law, because by so doing many could see how they had wronged God and so sought reconciliation with God whom they had wronged. So here when Gods covenant people saw by the law of God that they had wronged Him they could know how to make right with Him. Hence we have the blood offerings of the book of Leviticus which show the offenders how to make right for the wrong they had done. here commences the way of reconciliation from the alienation that sin has brought between man and God. The 5 blood offerings of the book of Leviticus are all shadows of the ultimate once and for all sacrifice of Jesus the Christ. hence these sacrifices are the foundations of the cross of Christ. if we are to understand what Christ did for us and how to make right with God, each of these blood sacrifices shows us how to make right and a different aspect of the work of Christ which encompasses all the different aspects of thes blood offerings.
vs3: The offering they were instructed to bring had to be a male and it had to be without blemish. This animal was obviously a prize specimen and worth a lot of money. It was to teach them that it would cost them to sin against God. After all they did bear his name and were known as His people. That the sacrifice had to be without blemish was to signify the perfect sacrifice of Christ. It is imagery that symbolizes perfection. In Malachi we are told that their sacrifices were rejected because they offered lame and blind sacrifices. Anything less of God's standard, God would not accept. And if your sacrifice was rejected that meant you couldn't be restored to fellowship with God and have your sins forgiven. It emphasizes that God as King tells us how we may approach Him and the dire consequences of coming how we please, to Him.
The symbolism of perfection of a sacrifice without blemish tells us why Christs sacrifice was accepted by God. Christ was completely without sin and so was without blemish. That is why he is the only way to God. Mohammed, Krishna or any other man that lived could not be offered to God because they are with sin and would be rejected . None of the prophets of the false religions teach that this is the way to approach God. This point is what sifts the wheat from the chaff. All other religions including some so called Christian denominations teach that people can be saved by good works. Good works can be taught in many different ways. What they fail to see is that atonement must be made for their sins. Blood atonement must be made. Someone has to die so that the guilty may go free. Only some ones death can bring you life and that death has to be a sacrifice without blemish. Having been told what manner of sacrifice to bring, the Israelite he must offer it at the door of the tent of meeting. He couldn't offer it to God himself but had to come through a mediator who was the priest. This is why Jesus is said to be our High Priest for he is able to enter the most holy place to offer sacrifice for the people who have sinned. Except that with Jesus he is the sacrifice and the priest. So having thus far brought a spotless bull, lamb, goat, and presenting it to the Priest, he then had to lay his hands on the head of the animal without blemish. Read on to find out more. |
