Now what is my reason for discussing these things? It is this, that the message of the gospel is at stake!!. What do you mean you ask? Well the teaching of being a saved spirit enjoying heaven at the point of death is unbiblical and is not the Christian hope though by erroneos teaching this disembodied state of salvation has become many Christians hope. What this teaching does is take away the hope of the resurrection from the dead. The cross and resurrection are the gospel not the cross on its own. Take away the resurrection and you have half a gospel.The reason the resurrection is so important is that it deals with our final state. This salvation of the spirit beside been unscriptural is an intermediate state and does not offer what the final state of the resurrection offers.Resurrection is the great deliverance and rescue from death.!!
The hope of immortality is given to the believer when the believer is raised from the dead and not before. Immortality Timothy tells us belongs only to God. 2 Timothy 1: 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: Immortality is brought to light in the hope of the gospel it is something we attain through the gospel, We are not already immortal as in our spirits being immortal . Immortality is connected to us believers been raised from the dead. 1 Timothy 1: 17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. and only humans who are part of the believing resurrection will inherit this wonderful and glorious gift of immortality. No man has at present,immortality in any shape of form. To say your spirit is immortal but your body mortal is a lie and will not stand up to the light of scripture. This is a great hope to be attained through the gospel and to say you already have immortality robs one of attaining to this hope. It robs the gospel of its riches.Romans 2: 7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: Immortality is something partakers in the gospel hope to attain to. 1 Cor 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. You see if you think you already have this immortality of the spirit,then it is not a prize to be attained through the gospel.Immortality is part of the prize of life gained by the resurrection from the dead.This is why the resurrection is so important to the gospel because it deals with our future hope.The last thing I wish to show is that the scripture says God alone has immortality. Let God be true and everyman a liar.When men say they have immortality even if it is of the spirit. Turn to the scripture which plainly says God alone has immortality.1 Timothy 6:15: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16: Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. We have Gods word on it so that settles it. Immortality is gained by the hope of the resurrection from the dead.. Bring back the resurrection to the preaching of the gospel. |
