The concept of 1st fruits and the Kingdom
Another way of explaining this is the concept of 1st fruits. Jesus on the cross has dealt the devil a fatal blow Jesus tells us that you cannot enter a strong mans house unless he first is bound Only when the strong man is bound can you plunder his goods. So now people are being plundered out of the habitation of the devil, by the power of Jesus Christ. Because they are made into new creations they are no longer slaves to sin and the Devil. Also because Jesus Has defeated death the sat an can no longer ensure their ultimate ruin. Now I have said this now to explain Revelation20. For it is in this way that Satan has been bound. It is by Jesus defeating the prince of demons that the strongman has been bound. Remember up until the time of Christ. All the nations were utterly deceived and in satans power. It is only Israel who had any knowledge of God. The gospel can only be fruitful among the nations because satan has been bound. We can only plunder his goods because Jesus has defeated and bound him. For satan to be bound doesn't mean he has no power, rather it is as though he is on a long chain. He is hindered. Evil is less, though it doesn't look like it. There are now more Christians among the nations than at any time before. The nations are no longer completely duped.

The next thing is the 1st resurrection. It is those over whom the 2nd death has no power. Now the first resurrection is what is called the new birth, being born again. In John 5 Jesus tells us that those believe in him and his testimony have now crossed over from death into life. He then continues to show that those who have crossed over from death into life now will not be hurt by the 2nd death. Only the wicked will be raised from the dead into the resurrection of condemnation. Paul is fond of using this kind of resurrection language to describe the new birth. In Ephesians2:1....."and you he made alive, when you were dead in your sins and transgressions. This is clearly 1st resurrection language. I could go on but I have made the point.

Nowhere in Jesus teaching do we find people reigning with him literally on the earth. Rather we will reign with him in the age to come. So Revelation if interpreted literally then doesn't fit into the rest of scripture. However if interpreted in the light of scripture in the framework of the kingdom we find a different story. One which I have clearly illustrated. Now getting back to the resurrection of Jesus, we will see how Peter interprets its meaning for us in Acts 2:22-36 Peter is interpreting the events of Jesus having poured out his Spirit. Peter interprets the outpouring of the Spirit in the light of Jesus death and resurrection. It is interpreting the resurrection of Jesus. He tells the crowd that David was speaking as a prophet when he prophesied about the resurrection of the Christ, that he would not be abandoned to the grave. He tells them David wasn't speaking about himself as Davids grave is there for all to see. Peter then connects the resurrection of Christ, to the promise made by God on Oath to David that he would set one of his descendants on his (Davids) throne. This is the great promise of 2 Samuel 7 from whence the Jews awaited their Messiah. Concerning this promise David for saw Christ's Resurrection and that he was not abandoned to the grave. This Jesus God raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has now poured out this which you see and hear. He goes on to say David never ascended into the heavens, but says "The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand till I make your enemies a stool for your feet." To finish off Peter concludes "Let all Israel be assured that God has made this Jesus both Lord and Christ . So the proof that Jesus is the Christ is because he has been raised from the dead to sit on Davids throne at the right of God. The pouring out of the Holy Spirit is proof that Jesus is now ruling until he puts Gods enemies beneath His Feet. Paul in Cor15:24-27 he speaks of Christ's return vs24 tells us that He must reign until he puts all God's enemies beneath His feet. Here again there is conclusive evidence that Paul understood the events at Pentecost. Christ could only pour out the Spirit after he sat down at the right hand of God. To be at the fathers right hand means he is ruling. This rule continues until he comes to overthrow all authorities and powers. Hebrews 1 in the context of Christ been grater than all vs13 says to what Angel did he ever say "Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies a stool for your feet.
To say that Christ isn't ruling is to say the Kingdom hasn't Begun. The Kingdoms dawn brings in the New Covenant that was promised. One of those promises is that of the Holy spirit that would circumcise the hearts of believers has now taken place. The 1st fruits of the new creation are being born. This is why John can say That Jesus is the 1st born from the dead, and the ruler of the Kings of the earth.(REV1:5)again what was prophesied concerning the Christ in Genesis49 vs 10 "The sceptre will not depart from Judah nor the rulers staff from between His feet, until it comes to whom it belongs. To Him shall be the obedience of the Nations." This gives us a picture of what Christ is doing now in heaven. He is ruling until he hands the kingdom over to the Father. This is what Paul teaches in 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 At Jesus coming comes the end when he hands the kingdom over to the Father after destroying all rule authority and power. For he must reign until he puts all his enemies under his feet. Paul is obviously accustomed to the teaching that Christ is now reigning. Jesus will continue to reign in subjection to the Father. Also on that last day at his coming the last enemy death to be destroyed will be death. So let us be in no doubt that Christ is ruling bringing all things into subjection finally at his return. It also must be said that premillenial teaching of Christs reign only entered Christian thinking in the 1600's. As such it is a relatively new teaching. It is certainly not what the early church believed.

So the kingdom has begun and it will be consummated at the return of Christ. The outline of the bible gives us the framework, in Genesis God creates and calls it good. Man rebels and is exiled from Gods kingdom. Then with the fall we have the uncreation, but God promises to recreate man and the world. The start of the new creation (recreation) is after Christ pours out the promised Holy Spirit. The consumation of the recreation is in the book Of Revelation where everything is made new. People and the world they live in are made new together. All because Christ Has conquered the curse, and purchased a people for God. They will dwell in the New Heavens and Earth and their city will be The City Of God i.e.: The New Jerusalem. Hallelujah!!!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!! Christ is King of the world!!!!!.
